Brighton's first gin

The first distillery to be granted a licence in Brighton & Hove has launched its inaugural product, Brighton Gin, with its first batch of 400 bottles. The Brighton Spirits Company behind the gin was set up by five friends from the city: a wine and spirits PR guru; a radio producer and former publican and restaurateur; founder of the WJ King Brewery and chair of the Small Batch Coffee Company; drinks editor of The Spectator, The Field and Boat International; and a physicist. The company is keeping the complete list of botanicals largely under wraps, but have revealed the recipe includes juniper, fresh orange and milk thistle. It retails at £36 for 70cl and has an ABV of 40%.
