Plans to build Japan's first artisanal gin distillery have been unveiled. Scheduled to open in early 2016, the team behind the project is keen to make the finest gin possible with Japanese botanicals. This will focus on the local produce of Kyoto, where the distillery will be based, which is famed for its fruit, spices and sake brewing. The emphasis will be on exclusivity; engaging with the Japanese bartending community initially, then only exporting to a small number of markets. Other Japanese gins on the market include Jinzu from Diageo and Japanese Gin from the Cambridge Distillery Company.
