New Gin from Ireland

Ireland's first craft whiskey and gin distillery, Blackwater Distillery in Waterford, has launched its first giin to join its single malt and pot still Irish whiskies. Named Blackwater No 5, it is a classic London Dry, distilled from soft local water and a French wheat spirit base. As well as gin standards such as juniper, coriander and liquorice, other botanicals include bitter almond, green cardamom - and two secret spices to give the gin 'a spicy middle bit'. The recipe took nine months to develop and the gin is now available for €29.95 for 50cl at 41.5% ABV.
