Orkney Distillery gets the nod

Plans for an Orkney craft distillery have been given the go-ahead by the Island Council. Work on the artisan distillery, visitor centre and shop in Kirkwall will begin in the autumn, with an official opening planned for next spring. Once open, the distillery will take on full production of Kirkjuvagr Gin - which is currently being fine-tuned with uniquely Orcadian ingredients and a nod to the Viking heritage. Initially distilled on mainland Scotland, it will launch in early August, with the first batches sold exclusively in Orkney.
